Rotary Student of the Month: Conner Gates

Conner Gates, son of Candis and Rory Gates, has been named the Aberdeen Rotary Club’s Student of the Month for November.

Conner has a GPA of 3.86, ranking him 19th in his class at Aberdeen High School. He is captain of the men’s swim and dive team, and a member of World Class Scholars and the National Honor Society.

He volunteers to help with younger students in various capacities at Hopkins Preschool, Beacon Elementary and A.J. West Elementary. He also served as a volunteer instructor at this year’s Outdoor School.

For his senior project, he organized a three-day swim camp with classmate Katie Lewis. “We both gave up time to practice in order to see the growth and development of young ambitious swimmers,” he said. “I believe this activity really gave the kids a sense of pure joy toward swimming and wanting to continue it possibly at the collegiate level.”

Conner has applied to several schools in the Pacific Northwest and intends to study business administration with a minor in secondary education. His plan is to pursue a high-end internship with Nike Corp. and work his way up.
