A gift of $15,000 to the Aberdeen YMCA building fund by ITT Rayonier, Inc., was announced today by L.J. Forrest, vice-president of the firm.

The YMCA building plans call for a $300,000 expansion in youth recreation and game rooms, with pool tables, ping-pong tables, juke box and vending machines, two meeting rooms, an adult locker room, a multi-purpose swimming pool, two handball courts and refurbishing of present YMCA facilities.

“That was everything an Aberdeen-Hoquiam game should be,” a Bobcat fan remarked after last night’s sizzler at Sam Benn Gym.

Grizzly followers would agree but prefer a different winner.

Anthony Mizin’s three-point play with :04 on the scoreboard clock was the difference as heavily-favored Aberdeen squeezed out a 64-61 victory over the inspired Grizzlies.

Mizin’s go-ahead layin, set up by a deft bounce pass from David Wessells, came off a well-rehearsed play called by coach Brad Fuhrer during a timeout nine seconds earlier.

“We’ve had that play with variations for a long time,” Fuhrer related. “But we haven’t used it much lately.”
