An action has been filed in superior court by Prosecutor Donn Lawwill against J.T. Lackey and Anna Lackey of Aberdeen seeking unjunction against the Ritz hotel, 401½ East Heron street, as a “public nuisance and house of prostitution.”

The proceeding charged that since March 11, 1942, and prior, “the rooming house and premises, furniture and musical instruments have been used for the purpose of lewdness, assignation and prostitution.” It charged further that the establishment has borne “a reputation of ill-fame in the community.”

• Aberdeen police are following leads on an early Friday morning burglary at Failor’s Sporting Goods store in which some $2.500 worth of goods were stolen.

Under study at the present time are “many good fingerprints” taken from the gun case and camera cases.

Failor said the culprits took a number of cameras, binoculars, telescopes, two pistols, a shotgun, about three dozen pair of jeans, about five dozen sweatshirts, three jackets, a pair of shoes worth about $20, some Bausch and Lomb sunglasses and some ammunition.

• Hoquiam’s top-ranked Grizzlies are one victory away from its first state tournament entry since 1951.

An over-powering, sharp-shooting crimson quintet led by 6-7 John Quigg with 21 points destroyed Aberdeen in surprising fashion, 70 to 56, Friday night to win the Southwest Conference AAA championship before an overflowing crowd of nearly 3,000 at the splendid Hoquiam High Gym.

It was a big night for Coach Jerry Anderson and his elated, charged-up squad. As someone said afterward, “what a way to dedicate the new gym.” It was the first Aberdeen-Hoquiam scrap in the new facility and one Hoquiamites will recall for years to come.

The Apollo 9 astronauts rocketed into orbit today and skillfully executed a link-up with a fragile ugly duckling spaceship which they hope to qualify to land men on the moon next July.

If Air Force Col James McDivitt, Air Force Col. David Scott and civilian astronaut Russell Schweickart succeed on their marathon 10-day earth-circling trip, they could clear the way for two Americans to make the landing during the Apollo 11 flight.

The Aberdeen Wal-Mart is close to completion and the managers are preparing for an onslaught of job seekers.

About 200 positions ranging from entry level to department managers will be filled through the state Employment Security Office in Aberdeen beginning next week.

Sherrie Karpen, one of five assistant managers who will be conducting interviews, said today a grand opening date has not been set, but she ruled out March or April. “We need to get in the store and get things under way before we can open, “she said, “which would be some time in the spring.”

Forward Shelly Wood scored five points at crunch time as Quinault’s Lady Elks stayed alive in the state Class B Girls Basketball Tournament losers bracket with a come-from-behind 37-35 victory over Tacoma Baptist this morning at Spokane Falls Community College.

Kathleen Cooper scored 18 points despite heavy defensive pressure and Michelle Leavitt added 11 for the Amanda Parkers. But it was Wood’s only five points of the game, plus four from the redoubtable Cooper that brought the Lady Elks back from a 32-28 deficit in the final two minutes
