Raymond City Engineer J.E. Buckingham revealed today that a group of international hobos were the uninvited guests of the city at the Butte Creek reservoir Wednesday night. The visitors wheeled in about dusk, showered and dined at city expense, then “flopped” for the night.

Buckingham discovered the intruders early Thursday morning when he visited the reservoir to check the chlorinator and clean the screens. When he attempted to oust them, a violent argument ensued, the visitors screaming that they hold primitive squatters’ rights on the site.

The city official prevailed, however, and the 10 wild geese, flew southward in a honking huff.

Miss S. Loine Floyd of Moclips stood in the bustling lobby of the new Aberdeen City Hall late Saturday afternoon, not long after the building had been dedicated.

“I think it’s gorgeous,” she said. “And I think it’s long been needed.

Miss Floyd, a tiny-but-talkative woman who taught in Aberdeen schools for more than 25 years, added, “Aberdeen’s dressing up. I’m not ashamed to take friends around and show ’em the buildings anymore.”

Such favorable reactions were typical following Saturday’s formal dedication of Aberdeen’s new $447,000 hall.

How would you rate the City of Aberdeen’s parks department?

Do you think the parks are well maintained?

Do you think enough recreational opportunities are offered?

If not, are you willing to pay more taxes to improve the service level?

How do you feel about building a community pool?

These questions and more are featured in a citywide survey for the Aberdeen Parks &Recreation Department. The survey is tucked into today’s Daily World and are also available at City Hall, the library and the post office.

City officials say they need input as they prioritize projects and develop a plan to take the parks and rec program into the next century.
