Driftwood Players offer a ‘silly, fun, sweet’ look at Christmas

The Driftwood Players will debut their new production on Saturday: “Looking at Christmas.”

This Steven Banks play is a slightly twisted (but family-friendly) comedy in two acts. On Christmas Eve in New York City, an aspiring writer (played by Casey Bronson) and a struggling actress (Rebecca Meacham) meet while browsing the famous holiday storefront windows.

“They comment on the displays, and then the displays comment on them,” said director Steven Puvogel. “You’ll hear the mannequins talking about their stories, and of course there’s also the story in front of them.”

In one of the displays, for example, Ebenezer Scrooge is complaining about being portrayed as a zombie; in another, there’s a jealous Joseph the Carpenter.

“It’s silly and fun and sweet,” said Puvogel.

Performances are scheduled this Saturday, Nov. 24; Friday and Saturday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1; Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7 and 8; and Friday through Sunday, Dec. 14 to 16. Curtain time is 7:30 for all except the final Sunday, which will be a 1:30 matinee.

Tickets are $15 and are available in advance at Valu Drug in Montesano, City Center Drug in Aberdeen, Harbor Drug in Hoquiam, and Dolores’ and Fay’s in Ocean Shores. Rush tickets will be available the night of each performance for $10 for students presenting ID.

Nov. 30 is Driftwood’s designated “pay what you can” night.
