South Bend council

Letter to the Editor

South Bend council

By being one of two candidates for Position 1 of South Bend’s City Council, I hope to open a conversation about how the city council can help the residents of our town.

When I recently read the Willapa Harbor Hospital’s Community Needs Assessment, I was not totally surprised that our poverty level in North Pacific County is considerably higher than the state average. The assessment goes on to say that approximately half our households cannot afford the basic budget for food, clothing, shelter, health care, child care and transportation.

I readily admit that I don’t know what I can do to address these issues, but as a city council member, I will be willing to listen and put in the time necessary to help look for solutions and to make our city more livable for everyone.
